Bindery Spotlight:
Pop-Up Ejection Clamshell Case
A New Bindery Experiment
I’ve been working on something new at Cedar Leaf Bindery: a pop-up ejection bookcase that combines a slipcase and a clamshell case, designed to make the book itself part of the opening experience.
The idea is to create a protective enclosure that does a little more than simply hold a book. When opened, the mechanism lifts the book out of its case, turning the act of taking it off the shelf into something a little more special.
Finishing Touches
For this first test, I made a Blue Fairy prototype. It’s still a work in progress, with plenty of room for refinement, but I’m delighted with how this initial version turned out. There’s something satisfying about working through a new design by hand, seeing an idea take shape, and discovering what works along the way.
This is just the beginning, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the project goes.
More to come from the bindery!
