Gisele Bündchen: Fo cover image

Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen rose from a modest rural upbringing to become one of the most successful models in the history of fashion. This volume presents the most striking images from her two-decade career, bringing together glamorous editorials alongside intimate personal photographs.

Gisele was just eighteen when she achieved her breakthrough in Alexander McQueen’s 1998 ready-to-wear “Rain” show. McQueen selected “The Body,” as he called her, for her remarkable ability to walk a slippery runway in towering heels. That same year, she appeared on the cover of British Vogue and quickly became the most sought-after cover model of her generation. The following year, Steven Meisel photographed her for the cover of American Vogue. Her sun-kissed athletic beauty marked a dramatic shift away from the grunge aesthetic of the late 1990s and helped usher in what was described as “the return of the sexy model.” Since then, Gisele has appeared on more than 1,000 magazine covers worldwide, walked in approximately 450 fashion shows, and fronted international campaigns for many of the world’s leading fashion and beauty brands.

Designed and curated by Giovanni Bianco, the volume contains more than 300 images. From Irving Penn’s celebrated nude portrait — featured on the cover — to iconic photographs by artists including David LaChapelle, Juergen Teller, Inez & Vinoodh, Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, and Corinne Day, the book offers a singular portrait of the woman who, alongside Pelé and Ayrton Senna, became one of Brazil’s most internationally recognized cultural figures as well as the highest-paid model in the world. The elegant visual collection is complemented by contributions from Gisele’s closest friends and family members, along with leading figures from the fashion industry.

Gisele Bündchen has donated all proceeds from this publication to charitable causes.
