Tommy Orange's debut There There follows twelve characters converging on the Big Oakland Powwow, each carrying their own wounds, hopes, and connections to urban Native life. Orange's narrative structure mirrors the fragmentation and interconnection of contemporary Indigenous experience, revealing how historical trauma reverberates through generations while celebrating the resilience and creativity of urban Native communities.
